Online course in Portuguese on gender-sensitive educational planning launched
IIEP's free online training course on gender-sensitive educational planning in Portuguese is planned to start on May 4th, 2022. The objective is to provide participants with the skills to integrate gender into all stages of educational planning, taking into account the multidimensional factors that perpetuate gender inequalities in and through education.
Although education can be a powerful lever for achieving equality, gender disparities continue to exist around the world and education systems reflect this reality. Despite significant progress in recent years, gender parity in enrolment has only been achieved by less than two out of three countries in primary education, one out of two countries in lower secondary education and only one out of four countries in upper secondary education (UNESCO, 2019).
To achieve gender equality in and through education, institutions need to create equitable policies, budgets and plans that enable every student to succeed in their trajectory, regardless of the demographics of their context. Such an approach requires attention to institutions and organisational structures, as well as to social norms and their dynamics within and outside schools.
In order to lead change and build the future of education on a sustainable basis, gender equality and, more generally, issues of equity and inclusion must be considered throughout the sector planning process.
