Monitoring the quality of education in Togo: adapting to the reality on the ground

A diagnostic study to analyze quality management practices in the Togolese education system

Initiatives to improve the quality and performance of the education system exist, but their results are clearly not up to the expectations of Ministry of Education actors. Why? The national teams working with IIEP-UNESCO Dakar’s experts are trying to answer that question by focusing on a little-explored area: what are the actors actually doing in their workplaces to improve the quality of education?

Niger: restoring trust on the use of data

IIEP-UNESCO Dakar attended the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA ) Triennial in Mauritius from 19th to 21st October, 2022 - a high-level forum for policy dialogue and knowledge sharing of experiences in education, across Africa. On this occasion, the Education Quality Management Support Programme had the opportunity to participate in the Data Challenge session.

Between research and action, rethinking the role of actors in improving the quality of education

IIEP's Quality Management Support Program participated in the KIX Knowledge Sharing Program Symposium in Addis Ababa from October 4-6, 2022 on educational research and innovation. This gathering of specialists met under the theme "Reinventing Education for Better Impact on Learning Outcomes in Sub-Saharan Africa".  The purpose of such an event was primarily to bring visibility to research and to promote discussion among national policy makers, researchers, and practitioners on evidence and research on improving learning outcomes.

Quality of education in Madagascar: a system that struggles to support the implementation of its policy

The diagnosis of the management of the quality of education carried out by the teams of the Ministry of Education, with the support of the IIEP-UNESCO Dakar, shows that it is difficult for good intentions to be translated into action, and that the difficulties remain significant. The Malagasy education system has solid assets. However, there are still many obstacles to completing the efforts undertaken and achieving the expected results.

Quality of education in Burkina Faso: limited policy impact due to poor understanding of problems on the ground

Despite the quality management of the Burkinabe education system and its numerous educational strategy documents: The Orientation Law, the Basic Education Sector Development Plan, the Education Sector Plan, the Integrated Strategy for the Strengthening of Pedagogical Management, the Integrated Strategy for the Continuous Training of Teachers and Pedagogical Managers, or its Quality Reference Framework for Basic Education...  Burkina Faso is still not quite "top of the class".  Defining strategies isn't enough to guarantee success.
